Death Note: Taste the Sugar
A MelloMatt fan fiction

~~The darkness of their room was unsettling in a way. Low ceiling, sagging bed, peeling wallpapers. Road-side hotels were never the best place to spend a night. It gets hard to sleep when you begin to wonder who exactly had been in that bed before you.
But when you have someone else in that bed with you, be it a parent, sibling, or, in their case, a lover, merely the warmth of another human against your skin is quite calming. A sense of being protected hovers in the stale air, a sense that nothing could go wrong when that one special person is there...~~

Matt's mind raced with thoughts he dare not think aloud, trying to stay as far away from Mello's heat as possible. How he longed for a cigarette, or for a couple minutes away with his DS. Him and Mello had been cramped together in the same car nearly all day. All Matt wanted was some alone-time.
Mello wanted the same thing. To be away from himself, that is. To escape from what he was becoming. Maybe the chance to gnaw on a chocolate bar, or take a cruise on his motorcyle. But his longings were in vain; no chocolate for weeks to come, his motorcyle halfway across the country. Sometimes the life of an outlaw took its toll on the blonde man.
"... Mello...?" Matt was suprised he heard himself  whisper to his partner in crime and love.
Mello, snapped out of dreaming, became slightly aggrivated. "What?"
"Well," the red-haired teen whispered, and turned over to face Mello. "... How long are we gonna keep running? We can only go so far until we exhaust everywhere in the US. What's gonna happen to... 'us' after that...?"
Upon hearing these words, Mello lay on his opposide side as well, staring into Matt's blue eyes. They swarmed with worry, pitifully trying to be masked over with anger. His heart lurched in chest, and nothing could stop him when he bolted up and yanked Matt into his arms. "No matter what happens... there will always be an us. Always."
Matt's eyes pooled over with tears, despite efforts to fight them back. His arms wrapped around his lover's shoulders as he pressed his cheek against the blonde's bare chest. There was no point in trying to make it the way things usually were; Matt was always the strong one, but, once he was away from nicotine, he began to change.
   "Mello..."
The wetness of despair and tears settled over the two, the shattered feeling of nothingness, of not knowing what would come next. All they could do was tell sugar-coated lies and hope for the best.
Moments of the embrace were shattered by the growl of Mello's painfully empty stomach. Matt couldn't help but chuckle.
"What, out of chocolate?" Matt mused.
Mello pushed away from Matt, blushing slightly and holding his stomach. "I haven't eaten anything in two days!!" he complained. A glare was tossed at his red-headed partner.
Matt smiled back, stroking Mello's scar lovingly. "Aw, c'mon, don't be that way. I got a surprise for you in the fridge."
Without further stalling, he yanked Mello to the small hotel room's kitchen, a fridge and microwave stuffed in a small section. Upon opening the fridge, a smile plastered Mello's face.
Two bars of chocolate sat in wait, even bearing the tell-tale wrapper which announced it was Mello's favorite brand.
"Matt, you're awesome," was Mello's cheerful exclimation as he took them into his arms. Delight danced in his blue eyes. Almost instantainiously, a bar was unwrapped and a square popped into his mouth.
Matt couldn't hold back his tinkling laugher, watching his lover joyfully scarf down his sweet meal. All thoughts of what were to become of them dissolved into grains of nothing, the overwhelming feeling of soon-to-be loss, of failure, of defeat, vanished away. The red-head took a seat in a nearby chair, sparkling blue eyes fixated lovingly on Mello. "I'm glad you're happy."
The chocolate-coated face froze in mid-bite, and hastily wiped away the mess staining the ends of his lips with a nearby paper towel. They stared at each other for a long while, the stale air between them nearly blurring their sight.
"You know... you haven't eaten in a while, too," Mello murmured, and walked up to Matt. The chocolate remained half-eaten on the counter. "It's not good for you."
"I'll be fine," Matt replied, looking up at him. Blue eyes met one another, and it was as if the world had stopped turning. Through blonde bangs, Mello searched for something in his lover's eyes, for an opening, for a chance to drink in his soul.
Matt payed this no attention, looking over Mello's skinny frame. "How do you eat all of that chocolate and stay deathly skinny? It's not healthy, you know."
"I thought you liked it. Don't you?" he replied softly, his arms hanging limply at his sides and head bowing so his eyes peered up through his curtian of hair. "Don't you... love it...?"
A small intake of restraining breath was Matt's reply. Their pale skin glowed in the blue moonlight peeking through the heavy curtians as they merely gazed at one another. It seemed hours later when Matt was able to tear his wandering eyes away from Mello's smooth chest.
Mello stepped slowly to Matt, a hint of blush on his cheeks, and crawled onto his lap, looking down at him. Matt trembled when he looked back up, his fingers shaking. "You smell like chocolate," he mumbled, looking away.
"And you smell like tobacco. Do you see me complaining?" Mello faded of when he lightly touched his lips to Matt's, wrapping his arms around his waist and pulling him closer to his body.
Matt contemplated the heat that was once again being offered to him. The taste of Mello's kiss crept into his own mouth, spreading over his tongue, sampling the biterness in his heart, the sourness of his eyes, the sweetness coated over his lips, the spiciness heating his body. A gourmet of flavors at his fingertips.
   He decided to give in.
The red-head returned the kiss, his own arms finding themselfs a snug hold over Mello's shoulders. Matt's longing lips molded to Mello's, his own bare chest causing pleasureable friction as he slided up from his once relaxed stance.
Breaking away momentarily, they gazed blankly into eachother's eyes.
"You taste good," Matt murmured, then locked their lips in an inescapable grip once more.

End...? c:
This does continue. But the lemon part is too intense to put on dA, I believe... Here is a quote from it:
"Next door, the other hotel tennats awoke, awkwardly staring at the wall. "... Wow. Someone's having a good time... hope the kids don't mind.""

YAY I THINK THIS IS MY MOST FAVORITE FAN FICTION I'VE EVER WRITTEN!!
I wrote it during my time on Lopez with ~Cat-Ninja, who watched my progress. I started it Saturday night, and finished it Sunday evening. The lemon has some blanks to fill in, still, but, other than that, it's complete.

If you wanna read the lemon part, note me and I'll email it to you or whatever. XD
